Back to the novel

It’s been nearly six months since I completed drafting the fourth chapter of my fencing novel. Since that time I’ve worked on several scenes that occur across the course of the first four chapters, as well as two unrelated short stories, one that I liked (“Summers”) and another I’d sooner not care to mention again (“Claude and Fraud Do Something”).

I’m now ready to start drafting chapter 5. But before my initial post, a few notes:

  • For those who’ve been following the novel on this blog, a couple of character names have changed. The character formerly called Bernie is now called Rune, and the character named Kassie is now called The Bird.
  • For those who haven’t been following the novel on this blog, I’ve added background material on the novel’s structure and title, setting, and characters.
  • I’ve also added summaries for chapters One, Two, Three, and Four.

And a little later today — the first entry for chapter five.

    • Your generous comment is most welcome.

I was a fencer in high school and college, but that was many years ago. A couple of years ago I decided to get back into the sport, and now I’m wondering why I ever left.

Fencers are some of the most intelligent, creative people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. They form a distinct and dynamic community, and it’s these people and their community — our people and our community, I should say — that inspired me to write my novel.
